Nick wasn’t sure if he wanted to install a Starlink Mini to his caravan or his Nissan Patrol, which had a dual battery system. After discussing the options, pros and cons with Nick, it resulted in a decision to install the Mini to the roof of the Patrol, which means the best of both worlds if the caravan isn't attached.
We installed the Starlink Mini Mount with built in IP67, meaning it's dust and rain proof, and a 30V Step Up Converter. This converter increases the 12V power from the dual battery system to 30V input for the Mini.
The Mini's original power supply is 30V, so we kept the voltage the same as originally intended because, even though the Starlink Mini will work on 12V, it doesn't work as efficiently, and we're all about realising the most out your equipment.
To avoid the mad dash to the car in the cold or rain, we also added in a remote control unit to allow the Starlink to be switched ON and OFF remotely from the caravan. Handy!
Starlink Mini is a compact Starlink kit designed to provide high-speed, fast responding internet on the go. It includes a built-in WiFi router, lower power consumption, DC (vehicle) power input, and max download speeds over 200 Megabytes per second.
